I'm really busy lately with all kinds of errands for car assembly.

I've cleaned all engine parts, so everything is as close as possible to new items. Every little detail was measured with micrometer, so components will be assembled in a way that combined measurment will cancel out as much imperfections as possible.

Every component was weighted

Cleaned thoroughly

... down to every single bolt
Image

Head and carriers will be additionally cleaned with ultrasound
Image

I also bought an engine stand, so assembly will be a bit easier
Image

Interior is mostly fitted, I'm just waiting for some clips to arrive and then I can fit the door panels.
Image

ACL Race main bearings finally arrived! :D
Image

My custom tapered inlet runner pipes were also made. I ordered 8, because 4 will be used for experiments and creation of a jig where 4 perfect runners will be made.

Tapers from 42mm (ITB size) to 38mm (megane head port circumference)

Lots of brand new original parts for my Willy 8)

A very expensive sticker! :x

Door cards fitted. Just a few clips and bolts left.

Doing some work on my inlet manifold
Image

This is how I polished the lip on the rims. It was cut on the lathe first and then I polished them by hand on this machine

Final result. I will make some better pics tomorrow outside

Here are other parts from those boxes. Master cylinder from 172 Cup, 172 hubs, discs and calipers (calipers will be replaced with Brembos) an Gaz coilovers. I already have adjustable KONIs, but I decided I will give GAZ a try.

Another massive update! :D

Plastic parts were professionaly refurbed and I think that they look better then brand new Renault items. Pics don't do them justice.

Just had to place them on the scuttle

This is an engine that will be exhibited next to my car. It's F7R with F7P exhaust manifold (sadly I don't have a spare F7R manifold)

I had the honor of having my Williams exhibited at the Renault stand on our biggest car show in Slovenia. There were some other famous Renault cars, like Renault 4 (it celebrates its 50th anniversary), Renault 5 Alpine and Renault Avantime. A lot of current Renault models from Twingo, Laguna, Clio were on show, but the crown of the most exciting new car went to Renault Megane RS 265 Trophy (Nr. 004/500). A lot of other stuff connected to Renault was on show like Senna helmet, small models of concept cars, Gordini boutique items and one of my spare F7R engines (fitted with F7P manifold, because I only have one F7R exh. manifold). One big attraction was also a driving simulator where people competed for the main prize which was one weekend with Megane Trophy.

Here's a short video from our stand:

To sum it all up, for me it was a great experiance. I met a lot of people and got a lot of positive reviews.

I would also like to thank here to some people that contributed a great deal and made all this possible. So special thanks go to:

- Leigh-Anne
- Wobba
- Sideways Danny
- dKrevs

Also big thanks to everybody else who helped me with technical solutions, parts, etc. I would love to mention everybody, but that list would be awfully long... Thanks again to everybody![/quote]

I don't have much time to spend on my Clio lately, but after one month of doing nothing on it, I decided it's time to do some work.

I painted my new block. I want it to be good looking and stay that way for a while. Therefore I decided I will paint it with epoxy/polyurethane combo. :)

Here it is with a lick of epoxy paint as a base paint:
Image

I also painted some pulleys
Image

And I had some spare epoxy paint so I resprayed dKrevs' sump too
Image

Then I ordered a custom polyurethane paint (colour is RAL 5013 if anyone wants to know). I wanted something that will look good in low light conditions and in direct sunlight. I wanted it to be subtle in low light, almost factory looking thing, but interesting in direct sunlight, especially for someone that's interested in details...

So the special mix for me is a semi-matte "Indigo" dark blue that looks almost black in low light
Image

And a very deep blue in direct sunlight
Image

Freshly painted block (my camera is not the best with representing true colours, so actual paint looks a little bit darker)
Image

Here are some teasers... :P
Image

Image

And this is how it looks with a bit less ambient light
Image

I hope you like it!

And now we come to present time (November 2011):

This is put together just to see how things fit together.
Image

I'm working on my custom inlet manifold for some time now. The amount of design work is huge (tnx dKrevs for all the help)! Most manifolds I've seen have runners turning in one or the other direction, because of ITB spacing. I wanted the inlet runners to be perfectly straight. Also original inlet manifold is not really light weight even though it's made from aluminum. So I made mine from alu/magnesium alloy and it should weigh around 2,5kg with ITBs included (original is probably around 5kg). 8) There's a lot of work still to do, but this is what I have done so far:

Mani begun it's life as blocks of alloy
Image

After some CNC magic I got 3 flanges. Runners were made earlier. Fits like a glove! 8)
Image

I fitted a prototype runner which has already been roughly reshaped to Megane head port shape
Image

Manifold "fitted"
Image

With ITBs
Image

Future work includes some more CNC work on flanges, to make room for O-rings, drilling holes and tapping a hread in flanges and fuel rail, anodising...
Flanges are thicker then they will be in the end. That's due to the warping when runners will be welded on them. I will trim them down up to 5mm, so even less weight! :D

very nice parts on your williams.

I think you have a lot a work to do before this engine will work well :)
You're making a very nice and meticulous job :)

Keep going :)

and don't hesitate in the future to post further pictures :)

Yeah, there's a lot of work to be done. Did you have anything particular in mind? I'm always open for suggestions!

I'd also like to say to everybody else interested in my progress to check back all 3 pages, because I posted 2 years worth of updates in one day!
